TAFT, Texas — Summer is the time for children to engage in outdoor activities like sports summer camps, but often times those camps can leave a hole in our wallets. The average sports summer camp can cost on average $85-$100, and that leaves parents with a decision to make.

Friends of the Taft City Parks was started out of the understanding of the financial struggles that followed Hurricane Harvey. The organization allows families to participate in summer camps without paying those high prices.

"Some families around the area have multiple kids," Board Member Valerie Fojtik said. "This helps families. Now all kids can participate without having to pick and choose."

The organization has taken some of those camps that can run as high as $165 and drastically lowered that cost to $10, or even no cost at all.

When a child starts a sport, the equipment can cost a lot of money. Friends of the Taft City Parks has this expense covered.

"All these programs that we have through the NFL, NBA and MLB all give the kids reversible jerseys, and receiving equipment."

Now thanks to the Friends of the Taft City Parks, any child can play any sport they like.
