CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Polling locations open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today across our area.
If you're registered to vote in Nueces County, you can vote at any polling place. But for other counties in the Coastal Bend, that's not always the case, so you'll want to check with your county clerk's office.
In regards to masks at the polls, a recent court decision sided with Gov. Greg Abbott. The decision says voters and poll workers won't be required to wear masks at voting sites.
The Texas Secretary of State's website lists one important item you’ll need is a form of photo ID.
The website lists seven forms of I.D. that will be accepted which include:
- Texas issued driver license
- Texas election identification certificate
- Texas personal identification card
- Texas handgun license
- U.S. military identification card
- Citizenship certificate containing the persons photograph
- U.S. passport.
If the name on the approved photo I.D. doesn’t match your name on the voter registration card, election officials say they will review the I.D. And if the name is substantially similar, you will still be able to vote with an affidavit confirming your identity.
If you do not have one of the forms of photo I.D. and can't get one, officials say you can bring other supporting forms of identification including a copy or original of a government document showing your name and address, or a copy of or original current utility bill or government check among others.
Officials say it’s illegal for anyone to try and stop you from voting.
If you experience intimidation, coercion, threats or false information about voting requirements, you are asked to call elections protection at 1-866-687-8683.
