What is your age?

33 years old

What is/was your profession? Are you now retired?

Currently a Marketing Director for a local law firm

What relevant experience can you bring to office?

I previously worked for a U.S. Congresswoman and the New York City Comptroller handling public affairs and public policy -- working on a range of issues from education to transportation, to small businesses to senior citizens, and so much more. In addition, I have volunteered to use that policy experience to work with Burn Pits 360, a local veterans' organization where we got laws passed at the state and federal levels of government to support veterans suffering from burn-pit exposure while they were serving in Iraq & Afghanistan.

How have your life experiences prepared you for this position?

Experience for office isn't just solely based off of professional experience, but also life experience. I was born and raised here in South Texas to a working-class family of public servants, and am a graduate of TAMU-CC. I understand the daily struggle of working multiple jobs to make ends meet, because I've had to do that. I know what it's like to have $1.26 in the bank account and have 3 days till payday. Being a working-class person my whole life is what has prepared me for this position because our heavily working-class community deserves someone to represent them who has those values & experiences.

What problems would you address on your first day in office?

Getting a hold of the COVID-19 pandemic in Texas -- starting with expanding Medicaid to get more Texans the health coverage that they need. When we address this health crisis, that will lead to getting our economy and lives back to 100 percent. More testing, more PPE, more medical personnel -- we need to have a solid plan of action.

What do you see as long-term issues which need to be addressed throughout your time in office?

Diversifying our local economy to keep our graduates local instead of moving away because they don't have job opportunities here -- something I had to do after graduating from TAMU-CC in 2009. Also long-term funding of our public schools -- we can't keep scraping little chunks of funding together every session to fund our schools. Lastly, our environment is a growing concern -- ensuring that our water and air quality goes up, and that we aren't continuing to cause health issues or destroying our marine life.

What is local government doing well right now that needs to be expanded further?

At the city level of government, I'll be honest in that there is a lot of improvements that need to be made. They have started to refocus a bit on improving quality life here in the Coastal Bend, and as a state legislator, I look forward to working with them on that so I can ensure they have what they need from me to be able to help grow the Coastal Bend area. Governing in a collaboration between the public and public officials, as well as between various levels of government, and it's important to maintain that when in office.
