Early voting is over and Nueces County shattered voting records.

The county surpassed the total number of ballots cast in the 2016 presidential election with over 7,000 people casting their ballot Friday, bringing the county’s total to 111,000 votes so far.

This is almost 53 percent of the total number of registered voters in the entire county.

The majority of Texans have voted for Republican presidential candidates for more than four decades, but analysts say this election could change that.

"We will have the early voting results available, you can go online and follow them,” said county clerk Kara Sands.

According to members of the Democratic and Republican party, this election will be a tight one in Texas. A Democrat hasn't won Texas since Jimmy Carter in 1976.
