CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — National Library Week kicks off Sunday and local libraries want book lovers to celebrate the important role libraries play now more than ever.

Local libraries typically host events the entire week to engage readers of all ages however the health crisis has forced libraries to close. So Nueces County Libraries are inviting readers to check out library websites and “Find the library at your place". National Library Week runs April 19 to April 25.

The Keach Family Library located at 1000 Terry Shamsie Boulevard in Robstown will host special events with Curious George during National Library Week. The "Swing by and Say Hi" events allows participants to drive by and wave and take photos of the lovable book character. The events are scheduled for Tuesday, April 21 and Thursday, April 23 both start at 10:30 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m. Enter the library main entrance on the north side by the front steps.

The original theme for National Library Week, “Find your place at the library,” was chosen months ago before the emergence of a global pandemic would force libraries to close their buildings. In response to the fast-evolving changes, the theme was revised to “Find the library at your place” to bring attention to how libraries are open for business online, offering electronic services and digital content, and to highlight the roles of librarians and library workers.

Nueces County Public Libraries offer a wide array virtual services such as Storytime Videos, Arts and Craft DIY videos, Ebook and Audiobook recommendations. Find the library at your place by visiting the website to access virtual services and resources.

This National Library Week, the public can show their appreciation and support for libraries by visiting their library’s website, following them on social media and using the hashtag #NationalLibraryWeek.
