PREMONT, Texas — The Premont Independent School District is taking a proactive approach when it comes to keeping its staff and students safe from COVID-19.

The district is looking to conduct testing for COVID-19 on a weekly basis. Some students are already attending classes at school campuses with most of the student body looking to join in classroom instruction on Sept. 8.

A survey was sent out to parents to share their input about the testing before it will begin. implemented. It was a process transpiring with a California school district that provided Premont Superintendent Steve Van Matre with the idea.

The District is currently taking bids from companies that will administer its testing with oral swabs. Staff members will be able to use a working app to monitor their daily symptoms.

Premont officials continue to review guidelines and recommendations from government agencies to keep the district as safe as possible.
