CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — City and county beaches won't be shutting down for the 4th of July holiday weekend, but getting to the beaches will be a little harder because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Barricades went up on beaches Thursday evening in anticipation of the closure to vehicle traffic.

An order that bans vehicles from being on beaches goes into effect Friday morning at 6 a.m. All access roads leading to the beaches will be blocked off. The order only allows for foot traffic on the beaches.

"We mean business with this closure, and no tolerance," said Scott Cross, the director of Coastal Parks.

At least one beach-goer KRIS 6 spoke to says he's okay with the order if it helps control the spread of coronavirus.
