A local hospice group spent the day feeding our health care heroes.

Harbor Hospice gave every employee at Corpus Christi Medical Center's Doctors Regional Hospital a Chick-fil-A meal and a T-shirt that said "Healthcare Hero".

Chick-Fil-A donated the meals and Harbor Hospice gathered donations from local sponsors including Edward Jones Investments, Senior Helpers, Dawson Recycling and Disposal, the Law Offices of Thomas J. Henry, Nichols Pharmacy, Nueces Cooperative, Paragon Healthcare, and Allen Samuels Dodge Jeep Ram.

Harbor Hospice Regional Director of Business Development Rhonda Holitzke said she hoped Wednesday's free meals and gifts would bring some joy to the hospital's medical, custodial and cafeteria staffs.

"These guys are taking care of people all day long," she said. "They're putting their life at risk. They're putting their families' lives at risk. We need to give something back."

Harbor Hospice plans to do something similar next week at Corpus Christi Medical Center's Bay Area Hospital.
