Nueces Co. officials reported a fourth COVID-19 related death Monday.

The male patient was between the ages of 60-69, and was diagnosed and admitted to the hospital in the middle of May.

The news release states he had requested heroic measures not be used to save his life, and once hospital officials were notified, he was extubated and died over the weekend.

The release also states that last week's confirmed case numbers are the most in the county since the first case was reported in March.

It recommends the continuation of proper hand-washing, using of face masks and social distancing while away from home.

In a live interview with KRIS 6 News at Noon, Gov. Greg Abbott made the same recommendations in response to the statewide spike in reported cases.

"COVID-19 still exists in Texas," Abbott said. "It has not left Texas, the U.S., or the world."
