CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Hand sanitizer is worth its weight in gold these days and this morning and area first responders hit the motherlode.

They were loading up on gallons of that liquid gold at the Port of Corpus Christi Thursday morning.

A corporate team effort made it all possible.

A Texas Distillery mixed the hand sanitizer solution, H-E-B donated the finished product and the Port of Corpus Christi provided the containers and manpower to fill jug after jug of this much-needed product.

Chief Dave Perkins, of the George West Police Department, said, "Our first line officers that are on the street got to have a way of being able to sanitize our hands while we're out on the street doing the work that we do."

First responders from here and around the coastal bend were able to stock up as much as needed.

The Port donated enough one gallon containers to distribute the hand sanitizer to first responders from Corpus Christi, George West, Three Rivers, Jim Wells County and Aransas County.
