Matagorda County reported Texas' first COVID-19 related death on Monday.
The county's health department said the Matagorda County man in his late 90s died Sunday night. The man has not been identified.
His positive COVID-19 status was reported a day after he died, on Monday. The Texas Department of State Health Services is investigating the origins of the man's illness.
He is the second positive case reported in Matagorda County, which is located near Houston. Bay City is the county's seat.
The county said it believes there is a community link between the two cases.
There still are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nueces County.
