Driscoll Children's Hospital is offering vaccine appointments for area teachers who fall into the Phase 1B vaccination category.

According to an email sent to the Corpus Christi Independent School District Staff, the hospital already offered 120 appointments to employees 65 and older and they have all been filled.

"The method for determining which CCISD employees will be offered appointments will include a combination of potentially eligible staff in the 1B category as well as an automated, random-selection, lottery system," says the email from CCISD.

Those determined to be eligible will be sent a registration link and are advised to only use this link for themselves because names will not be re-selected until everyone has been given the opportunity to schedule an appointment once.

The vaccine is not required for CCISD employees.

"While we encourage all employees to get vaccinated to help protect their health and the health of our community, the decision is a personal one," says the email.

Questions about this process should be directed tothe CCISD website.

"We know that demand remains high, and we will continue to seek vaccine appointments for our employees," says the email. "Thank you for your patience during this process."

That email also says Nueces County has offered 500 appointments for area schools.
