CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Department of Public Safety has closed its driver license offices across the state.

The DPS says it's a temporary closure, but there's no word on when those offices will reopen.

In the meantime, expiration dates on ids and driver licenses are temporarily suspended.

And drivers are asked to go online to see if they are eligible to renew online.

Some people who showed up at the DMV today were a little frustrated.

"I was trying to find out if it was open instead of coming all the way over here to find out that it was closed,” local resident Rosaura Nava said. “I can understand why they’re not open, but somehow you have to be able to get it through the telephone lines."

The closures will not apply to those seeking a commercial driver license.

And that exception will allow commercial drivers to continue to transport goods across the state.
