GALVESTON, Texas — Even as the COVID-19 vaccine is being distributed throughout Texas and the United States, Galveston has announced it will cancel its 2021 Mardi Gras celebration.

The Galveston City Council voted unanimously to cancel the event, the Galveston County Daily News reports.

The festival would have been held Feb. 5-16.

Mardi Gras annually attracts more than 250,000 spectators to the yearly celebration in the Texas beach city.
