CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — During today's joint city/county news conference, Mayor Joe McComb announced local donors who are helping out during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The donations will be funneled through the Mayor’s Disaster Recovery Fund which is focused on area non-profits that are helping the community.
"Donations began coming in immediately," McComb said in a press release. "Some have been large and some have been small but each valuable."
Today, according to McComb, the Coastal Bend Food Bank and Salvation Army of Corpus Christ received $25,000 each to assist families effected financially by the pandemic.
"Each of these organizations responds to the needs of residents beyond Corpus Christi and Nueces County extending their services to the Coastal Bend area," said McComb.
McComb wore a mask and practiced physical distance to present the funds to Beatriz Hanson, Executive Director, of the Food Bank and Captain Patrick T. Gesner, Corps Officer, at the Salvation Army.
As of yesterday, checks and online contributions have totaled approximately $55,000 and major donors have said they would pledge more over the next few days.
These are the organizations who have contributed to the mayor's fund so far. Although some have chosen to remain anonymous.

"The generosity of donors who have quickly responded and the hours of extra effort of the staff of the Coastal Bend Community Foundation, some community volunteers, and the non-profits out there meeting the minute to minute challenges presented to our neighbors and friends is just remarkable,” said McComb. "I look forward to presenting more checks as additional donations are received and banked.”
