CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — It isn’t just businesses and people struggling financially right now.
Nonprofits trying to accomplish good things for good people are also feeling the pressure from this pandemic.
It’s hard to think that nonprofits, like the Aransas Pass Chamber of Commerce that serves so many, may not be able to give back like it usually does.
“Each community has its own special events to raise money for their organizations and also as an economic impact for the whole community. So this has really been hard on all of us because we are unable to have events to bring people to our communities,” said Aransas Pass Chamber of Commerce CEO Rosemary Vega.
Aransas Pass, along with the Coastal Bend United program that was started after Hurricane Harvey, is working to help small businesses suffering financial hardships from the COVID-19 crisis.
“Through that program we were able to give away $1.7 million to small businesses to help them reopen and recover. We are hoping that we can do a similar type of program for small businesses now,” said Vice President Government and Community Relations United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce Ginny Cross.
All of the money donated will go to aid small businesses such as local salons and restaurants.
“Our goal is to get back to some kind of normalcy to help as many small businesses as we can and band together and make things better” said President CEO Portland Chamber of Commerce Shelly Stuart.
“This is different because everyone everywhere needs help,” said Cross.
Right now the Coastal Bend United Program needs more sponsorships in order to provide more grants to help small businesses.
