CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — Although Coastal Bend College is still closed to the public, this week the school opened its campuses to students by appointment only.
The Coastal Bend College Task Force has been developing a framework for reopening its campuses in Beeville, Alice, Kingsville, and Pleasanton.
“We really want to help, and that is why we decided to do a soft opening. The campus is still closed to the public; it is only open to the authorized employees and students that have appointments. If you don’t have an appointment, you won’t be seen,” said Coastal Bend College Director of Marketing and Public Relations Bernie Saenz.
The school's next phase in reopening is projected to begin July 6.
“That is a tentative date and that would be when we bring back our faculty, staff, and our students, getting ready to open up the campus completely,” said Saenz.
Coastal Bend College shut down its campuses in March to combat the spread of the COVID-19 while continuing its online classes. During this pandemic, the college also had to factor in the financial impact as well.
“And through the effort of the admissions office, registration, through student services, through advising, we still were able to maintain a slight increase in enrollment in Summer One over Summer One last year,” said Saenz.
As for now, Coastal Bend College will continue to follow local and state social distancing guidelines to keep everyone safe.
