CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — The Corpus Christi police department says they want to warn the pubic to not fall for any COVID-19 scams.

They posted online it is unfortunate during any crisis situation that there are criminals that take advantage of people.

They added people should be skeptical and suspicious about unsolicited calls or emails. If you have older family members of friends, look out for them and educate them about scams.

Here are some advice CCPD offered:

  • If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
  • Hang up on robo-calls.
  • Ignore online offers on vaccinations and home test kits.
  • Fact check information.
  • Never give your personal information over the phone.
  • Know who you are buying from.
  • Don't respond to texts and e-mails about checks from the government.
  • Don't click on links from sources you don't know.
  • Watch for emails claiming to be from the Centers for Disease Control or updates on the virus.
  • Do your homework when it comes to donations.
