CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Police Department has asked Nueces county residents to 'please re-consider' attending local rallies due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

"We want to encourage those that wish to attend one of these rallies, to please re-consider," said a post from CCPD. "Due to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in Nueces County, our greatest concern right now is for the health and safety of our community members as well as our officers."

CCPD officials said they understand, and support, people trying to improve the community in this way and offered suggestions for a safer way of practicing activism during a pandemic.

"We understand that peaceful protests and rallies are held with the intention of improving our community and our connection to each other," the post states. "We suggest that this can be accomplished from the safety of your home, rather than potentially causing harm, illness or greater loss within our community."
