CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — For all the Coastal Bend runners who lace up their shoes to race in the annual Beach to Bay Relay Marathon, it's getting postponed until next year.

The 45th annual race was supposed to take place in May. However, because concerns surrounding COVID-19, the event has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 15, 2021.

Registration for next year's race will remain open. Meanwhile, teams that were scheduled to run in this year's race will automatically be placed in the 2021 race.

“This is the first time the race has not taken place since it was first run in 1976,” said Doug McBee, the race director. “These are unprecedented times and the health and well-being of our athletes comes first. Let me assure you that the history of the Beach to Bay Relay Marathon will remain intact and this grand event will resume in 2021 bigger and better than ever.”

The Beach to Bay Relay Marathon begins on North Padre Island, goes through Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, and ends along the bayfront at Cole Park.
