CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Alice Residents, be sure to grab your face masks when you head out the door.

Jolene Vanover, the mayor in Alice, issued an executive order on Monday afternoon stating everyone above the age of four in the city is required to wear a mask in public, for example going to the grocery store, getting gas or going to the post office.

The order went into affect at noon, and will continue until 11:59 p.m. Monday, April 27.

Residents do not need to wear a mask when exercising, driving alone in your personal vehicle, or when you're at home.

It doesn’t have to be a medical grade mask, because those are reserved for healthcare workers who are on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore any homemade mask, a bandana, scarf or handkerchief will do.

Residents spoke to KRIS 6 News and said they are on board with the mayor’s order.

"We do have to be careful because there are people who carry it (the virus) and they don't know it, and we don't know it, and that's dangerous,” said Elizabeth Trevino.

"We want all this to go away,” said Pete Hernandez, another resident “We're not used to this, but for our own protection and others, wearing a mask is 100% good."

Anyone who fails to abide by the order could face a fine of up to $500, which is a Class C misdemeanor.
