CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Two Corpus Christi firefighters will be tested after possibly being exposed to a COVID-19 patient.

An elderly man was transported by medics from a nursing home to Christus Spohn Hospital Shoreline on Tuesday. He later tested positive for COVID-19.

The possible exposure happened in the ambulance while transporting.

"While in the ambulance treating him, the paramedics lifted their goggles to start an IV and were exposed to active coughing by the patient who had removed his mask," said a press release from the City of Corpus Christi.

The Corpus Christi Fire Department was notified of the elderly man's positive COVID-19 test Tuesday night.

"Out of an abundance of caution, the two firefighters will be tested for COVID-19 and were placed in isolation at a secure Fire Department facility while waiting for test results," said the press release.

This is a developing story.
