ROCKPORT, Texas — The Texas Maritime Museum located in Rockport has been educating the public about Texas Maritime history and artifacts for 30 years. It's been designated as the official Maritime Museum of the state and it's home to the Annual Rockport Wine and Food Festival.

To continue their mission in operating the museum, staff and volunteers will have to adjust to new regulations placed by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

The museum's staff also has been training for two weeks before the museum's reopening.

Personal Protection Equipment will be handed to visitors of the museum, which will be opening at 25 percent capacity or below.

This means only four people at a time can view exhibits and only 25 visitors are allowed inside the building at one time.

CEO of the Texas Maritime Museum Kathy Roberts Douglass says their strict accreditation keeps workers accountable.

“It is very hard, too maintain those standards so we have to go through the process not only with our volunteers, our staff, but also our board in hoping that the public understands that we hold this museum to a higher standard,” she said.

The museum also will have exhibits and elevators covered with tape and plastic so visitors can watch what they touch around the premises.
