CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As Covid-19 cases rise in across the country, resources such as PPE’s or Personal Protection Equipment, are becoming scarce.
Although that issue has not hit here in the Coastal Bend, community leaders are asking for donations of PPE’s and handmade masks to give to health care workers.
The Nueces County Medical Society says they are asking businesses to donate PPE’s so they can distribute amongst organizations.
Meanwhile, two mom’s, Sabrina Tiongson and Emily Waddles, have taken it upon themselves to make face masks.
Waddles says she felt helpless with the confirmed cases rising, with making masks she says she feels more in control, as if she’s really helping someone protect themselves.
Tiongson said she took to Facebook to see who could donate materials and who was willing to help make these masks.
Facebook has been the one-stop-shop for learning more about how to help our health care industry.
Local doctor, Lindsey Vasquez, MD, FACOG, said cloth masks are not ideal but they can be helped in adjunct with the n95 masks that have become a commodity throughout the country.
Vasquez said many of her colleagues across the country are having to reuse the n95’s and even take them home to clean.
She created a Facebook Page for anyone who wants to donate or make masks.
Vasquez says she wants to get a large donation by this Sunday to send to health care workers.
