CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Last month, Rosie Tijerina, a CHRISTUS Spohn Associate, received her second dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi – Shoreline.

The virus has had an unfortuante impact on her family.

Rosie lost her grandson in July to COVID. He lived in McAllen, Texas and was admitted to the hospital on June 21, 2020.

Less than two weeks later, Jubal Ortiz passed away in the early morning hours of July 3 – just hours after his family said their goodbyes via a Zoom meeting.

As you can imagine, Rosie and her family still grieve their loss.

Although they were able to hold a small, private memorial service, COVID restrictions haven't allowed the family to mourn together.

Despite the loss, Rosie wanted to share her story in hopes of urging people to get the vaccine (when it's available to them) and to continue to take safety precautions to slow the spread of COVID.

Here is a look at Rosie's full story.
