Balls of tar washing up on local beaches

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Those unsightly tar balls have returned to some of our area beaches.

The tar started washing up on shore this weekend.

That's not uncommon for this time of year.

They're believed to be natural seepage from oil deposits in the seabed.

Today, crews with the Texas General Land Office were on site to take a closer look.

Experts say if you happen to step on one, use baby oil to rub it off and then wash the area with soap and water.

Tar balls have also been spotted in the Port Aransas area.
