CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A health center that's been serving the area for over a decade, celebrates the grand opening of a new pediatric health facility on the city's westside.

The opening is coming just in time as kids get ready to head back to school.

Excited is not usually the word used to describe going to the doctors’ office, but the staff at Amistad Community Health Center have drastically changed that. after outgrowing their pediatric office of 10 years.

Every room a theme, in order to make a usually stressful visit into an experience not only kids can look forward to, but parents as well.

Amistad provides wellness visits, immunizations, preventative medicine and also includes mental health counseling. This office provides services to all children, no matter their situation.

There are almost twice as many rooms for these services, since moving their office upstairs. Besides the aesthetic upgrades, they've added an additional pediatric doctor, nurse practioner, and are adding two additional providers and eventually getting a child psychiatrist.

Speaking of teens, Amistad will now have a special night set aside just for teenagers.

That special night for teens starts next week and will be every Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The children's Amistad wing is now open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
