ALICE, Texas — Knowing, in elementary school, the career you want to eventually pursue is rare. High school sophomore Jason Guerra is 15 now, but he knew back when he was eight years old where his passion lay.

"In the FM radio, I was in school, and a bunch of people would be like ‘Hey, I just heard you on the FM station,” said Jason, who DJs under the name “DJ Lucky J.”

“And I'd say 'Yeah, I know.' I started talking a little bit about my show."

"Lucky J" turned 15 this week, and since his FM radio career, he has launched his own daily Facebook Live show. And he does it all from his backyard, with a little help from his dad.

"I bought this for storage, and I had to take everything out,” said Jesse Guerra, Jason’s father. “So I have a lot of junk in my house (right now). I made this amazing studio for him and he's taking it far beyond my expectations, and I can't wait to see what the future is like for him."

What started out as a hobby for DJ Lucky J, has turned into a show viewed in over 10 countries, in only four months. Lucky J loves cumbia, Tejano, country music, and even plays the drums to his mixes. His mom and dad manage the show, and were ecstatic when Jason was invited to perform at the Tejano Music National Convention in a city Jason never imagined playing this soon, Las Vegas.

"I actually got invited to ‘The Johnny Canales Show’ with Tristan Ramos, (a) 12 year old amazing accordion player,” Jason said.“What happened was, the set went off, we got off stage and I went outside to talk to him and his dad and he was like 'Well, we got Vegas coming up,' and I thought 'OK, cool. I didn't think of getting an invite."

But he did, and will be making Alice and the Coastal Bend proud when he goes on stage next Friday at midnight.

The Guerra family will be holding a burger-plate fundraiser Saturday to help with travel expenses for the trip. The plate includes a hamburger, chips and a drink for a $7 donation. Plates can be purchased from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at KC Pavilion in Alice.

"He's a totally amazing kid, and I have a feeling he's going to make it pretty big," said Jason’s proud dad, Jesse.
