CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A new state law is taking effect September 1 enabling all 254 Texas counties to regulate game rooms.

These game rooms offer "sweepstakes" winnings that do not exceed certain payouts mandated under the law.

Here in Nueces County, Sheriff John Hooper estimates there are between 18 and 20 of these establishments in operation.

But some establishments stray into illegal gambling activities, forcing local law enforcement to take action.

Chief Investigative Reporter Rick Spruill has the report.
