More arrests are expected in Sunday’s shooting that left 16-year-old Gavin McFarland dead and his father John McFarland injured.

Here’s how the investigation has played out so far.

San Patricio County Sheriff Oscar Rivera announced the arrests of 27-year-old Carlos Chumacero and 26-year-old Henry Roland Gonzales Jr. yesterday.

Chumacero, the man wearing glasses, is charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

His bond is set at $600,000 for both charges.

Gonzales, who only faced the aggravated assault charge, bonded out of jail yesterday afternoon.

Sheriff Rivera says Chumacero is the suspected shooter in Sunday morning’s incident that claimed the life Gavin McFarland and wounded his father.

John McFarland says they had been cut off and were trying to catch up to the truck to get a license plate.

That led to a confrontation and then the shooting.

Sheriff Rivera says there are witnesses who saw the events unfold.

He says their failure to report what they saw will lead to charges against them.

“You don’t let somebody just lay on the highway and drive off and make no attempt to contact law enforcement, or even make an anonymous phone call to go back and check on a victim,” Rivera said. “That is just wrong.”

Sheriff Rivera tells us his investigators knew who Chumacero, the accused shooter was.

His attorney had been in contact with them and and the attorney was supposed to bring him in.

When Chumacero failed to show up, sheriff’s deputies went to his home in Ingleside where they arrested him.

Rivera says he was able to tell the McFarland family about the arrests at their son’s funeral yesterday.
