Many local veterans were able to get a free plate of barbeque this Memorial Day.

A barbeque cook-off was held over at the Ayers Event Center from noon to 3 p.m.

The cook-off was hosted by our local Disabled American Veterans Chapter 150.

Former Vietnam Veterans thanked for their service at this event.

Ricardo Gonzalez, who is a Marine Veteran, said, “We are very grateful all of us veterans are very grateful for the public to come on over and say thank you for your service. I always give them a hand salute, and they make me feel like an 18-year-old Marine again.”

Baldemar Perez, who is a Vietnam veteran, said, “This important because so we can recognize our vets and also raise our funds for disabled veterans and all those in need.”

The D-A-V 150 was also raising funds to help support the local Veterans Affairs clinic.
