Vandals deface Massachusetts Vietnam Veterans Memorial

Posted

Only days before Memorial Day on Monday, Boston police are trying to figure who would vandalize a memorial dedicated to the service of Vietnam veterans.

And more importantly, why?

Boston television station WHDH reports that the vandalism occurred at the Vietnam War Memorial in the Dorchester neighborhood on Thursday.

They have called the crime “hate-related.”

The vandals drew a swastika and wrote hateful messages on monuments. They also ripped plants from the ground and flung American flags into a nearby creek.

The Boston Herald reports that surveillance video may show a suspect who is wanted in connection with the incident.

The newspaper also reports that the damage was done one day after repairs at the memorial were completed from earlier vandalism in October.

The memorial features the names of 80 servicemen who were killed during the Vietnam War.

What kind of person would do this dastardly act, especially with Memorial Day so near?
