Aransas Pass Police using a nasal spray that can help reverse an opioid overdose

Posted

It has been just about a month since the Aransas Pass Police Department started carrying Narcan kits for all on-duty officers. Chief Eric Blanchard says there are two reasons why this was important, to keep officers safe if exposed by narcotics and to continue helping residents if overdosing.

Blanchard says keeping his officers safe is a top priority. One officer, Jack McCarty, was recently exposed to narcotics when giving mouth-to-mouth to a non-responsive child. Both the child and officer turned out okay, but McCarty says it was scary because you never know what you’ll run into.

Aransas Pass Police Department received 60 Narcan kits for all officers to keep on them while on duty.
