New corridor off Padre Island passes first council vote

A proposal to create a new corridor off Padre Island has passed a first vote by the city council.

As we reported yesterday, that proposed route would link Park Road 22 and the Crosstown Extension. The proposed route goes across the Laguna Madre south of the JFK Causeway.

This new road system would address increased traffic from the south side and could also serve as an evacuation route for island residents.

It’s a project that could take years to get underway if the city council gives its final approval.
