Law enforcement officers from agencies all over South Texas started their day with an early morning run to help local Special Olympics athletes.

The annual event kicks off the Special Olympics Summer Games.

Today, officers began carrying a torch from Kingsville to Corpus Christi.

They’re now running the torch all the way to San Antonio where the Olympic Games will be held.

It’s all part of a partnership with the Special Olympics and Texas.

This year, the organization is celebrating 50 years.

The funds raised from the torch run serve more than 2,000 South Texas athletes.
