Cabaniss Athletic Complex Improvements nearly complete

The Cabaniss Athletic Complex contains CCISD’s marquee athletic facilities.

Home to a swimming and diving facility, a baseball and softball field, and a football field, Cabaniss has it all.

But now, CCISD is adding to the already impressive facility.

“It is going great,” CCISD Athletic Director Brenda Marshall said.

The renovations that are a result of a district bond started with improving their baseball and softball fields; something that Marshall says was long overdue.

“We added new bullpens that are turfed for softball and baseball and then we added a batting cage on each side,” she said.

This renovation has been overdue. And now that the first part of the renovations is complete, Marshall told KRIS 6 News that administrators from schools across the state are taking notice.

“When we go to meet with other athletic directors they are really excited to hear what is going on in Corpus Christi,” Marshall said.

One benefit of the improved baseball and softball facilities has allowed the district to host neutral-site games.

The turf field allows for games to be played even during wet weather. Now teams from across the Coastal Bend can choose to play at Cabaniss Field, bringing more revenue to the district.

“The revenue helps us because of our concession stands,” Marshall said. “And it gives the people that work our games like the announcers and the ticket sellers, so it does help pay extra expenses.”

There are still a couple more aspects of the construction that are still to be completed. Two football fields behind the multi-purpose field are being built. Construction also awaits on the football stadium’s press box.

Marshall expects for the Cabaniss construction to be completed by December.
