North Beach task force expected to ask for TIRZ to maintain canal

Last week, a task force unveiled its plan to fix the decades-old drainage issues on North Beach, as well as a plan to turn the area into the “Happiest Place in Texas.”

The solution was to build a canal, which the North Beach Infrastructure Task Force wants the city to pay
$40 million dollars to dig.

Task force members also want a Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone, or TIRZ, to help maintain the canal.

Nueces County commissioner Carolyn Vaughn chaired that task force. She is expected to ask the council to set up that TIRZ as part of her presentation.
