U-S forces in Afghanistan say three American service members and a contractor have been killed in a roadside bombing near the main U-S air base in the country.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
The U-S and NATO resolute support mission said the four Americans were killed yesterday (Monday) near the Bagram Air Base, north of Kabul.
It added that three American soldiers were injured in the explosion and are receiving medical care.
In their claim of responsibility, the Taliban said they launched the attack and that one of their suicide bombers detonated his explosives-laden vehicle near the NATO base in Bagram district.
Monday’s (yesterday) U-S fatalities bring the number of American soldiers killed so far this year in Afghanistan to seven, underscoring the difficulties in bringing peace to the war-wrecked country even as Washington has stepped up efforts to find a way to end the 17-year war, America’s longest.
