Flag raising on Iwo Jima celebrated with Saturday ceremony at Veterans Memorial H.S.

The 74th anniversary of the flag raising on Iwo Jima during World War II will be celebrated later this month. Honored guests will include survivors of that memorable battle.

The event will be recognized during a ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday at Veterans Memorial High School, 3750 Cimarron Blvd.

The guest speaker will be Col. Bret H. Ritterby, USMC. Ritterby is the commanding officer of Marine Aviation Training Support Group No. 22 at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi.

The event will feature the men and women of the Marine Aviation Training Support Group 22 and C Company, First Battalion, 23rd Marines, Fourth Marine Division.

Music at the event will be provided by the Corpus Christi Veterans Band conducted by Ram Chavez.

And a special presentation will be made with the recreation of the flag raising by members of the Corpus Christi Young Marines.
