UPDATE: The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s office has identified the man killed in Thursday’s accident as 30-year-old Charles Jordan Woodard of Corpus Christi.
A pedestrian was struck and killed by a van as he walked across State Highway 286 near the Agnes ramp late Thursday afternoon.
Corpus Christi Police Capt. Anthony Sanders said the accident occurred about 4:48 p.m. Thursday. Police found the victim, a male of undetermined age, deceased after he had been struck by a van.
Sanders said initial information indicated the deceased person and another man were headed westbound attempting to cross the road. They initially crossed the highway but the accident occurred when they attempted to cross back.
“There was another individual who took off,” Sanders said. “We don’t know if he was hurt.”
Police do not have an age on the victim or identity of the victim, who they believe could have been a homeless person.
The accident continued a string of similar pedestrian-auto accidents across the city in the last several months.
“It’s unbelievable,” Sanders said. “We’ve had a lot of these accidents all of last year. Please use crosswalks and be safe. We’ve had way too many of these accidents.”
