With forecasted rain, gusts of high winds and chilly temperatures, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Homecoming Block Party on Saturday has been canceled for the safety of the school’s attendees.

Among the events that will not be held include the cancellation of community booths, inflatables, bathrooms, food trucks and the petting zoo. Some events will continue as planned and the Alumni Tailgate will change locations.

Other events set for homecoming include:

Alumni Campus Brunch Tour

The campus brunch tour will continue rain or shine from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, with the last tour departing at 10:30 a.m.

Islander Adventure Course

The Islander Course Challenge will continue as scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday in the Angelfish parking lot.

 Alumni Tailgate

The Alumni Tailgate event will move locations to BUS at 702 N. Chaparral Street and will include valet parking. The event will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, with food, drinks, live entertainment and family-friendly activities.

Student Tailgate information

As with any home athletic event, students with a current student ID may still tailgate on their own if they choose to do so in the American Bank Center Lot #10, starting at 1 p.m. Tailgate policies and procedures must be followed, and the University Police Department will be on hand to ensure the safety of everyone in attendance.

Dean’s & Izzy’s Cup Competition

University departments competing for the Dean’s and Izzy’s Cup will not have a block party booth and will only be judged by their office decorations. Izzy’s Cup will be presented to the winning areas at the Men’s Homecoming basketball game during the second half.

Basketball Games

The Islanders Women’s Basketball game will be at 3 p.m. and an Islanders Men’s Basketball game at 7 p.m., which includes the announcement of the school’s Homecoming Court.

Lighting of the “I” Will Go On!

The Lighting of the “I,” the annual spirit tradition at Homecoming, will go on rain or shine starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8 on the East Lawn and Anchor Plaza. However, in the event of inclement weather, the event will be relocated to the University Center Rotunda.
