Six Citgo executives, include one from Corpus Christi, remain jailed in Venezuela after their arrest in late 2017 at the hands of President Nicolas Maduro, who accused the men of various crimes against the state.

The six men included Alirio Zambrano, a VP at Citgo’s Corpus Christi refinery. Attempts to reach his family have been unsuccessful and the company is not answering – or even acknowledging – questions about Zambrano’s status or condition.

One outlet is reporting that a lawyer for the men is petitioning the U.S. government for help getting their release, as they’re being denied due process and the right to a speedy trial.

Another outlet is reporting that one of the six, former Citgo CEO Nelson Martinez, died in December while undergoing treatment for a “serious, chronic disease.”

We will continue following this situation and reporting new developments.
