Nueces County commissioners picked Texana Public Affairs as the county’s new lobbyist with the 86th Texas Legislature in Austin.
The Friday vote was 4-0 with an abstention from Precinct 1 County Commissioner Carolyn Vaughn.
Texana is fronted by former State Rep. Hugo Berlanga, a close friend of County Judge Barbara Canales and her family.
Vaughn expressed concerns about Texana before the vote.
Vaught was worried that Berlanga represents the drainage district in Robstown, especially with drainage as a topic the county soon will pursue.
