Local attorney Greg Perkes has been appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott to the 13th Court of Appeals for a term that will expire at the end of next year.
Perkes is owner of Perkes Law Firm, P.C., and previously served as a justice on the 13th Court of Appeals from 2011-2016.
In recent years, Perkes has directed efforts to redevelop the downtown area in a project called SEATown. Their business strategy is to convert land left when the Harbor Bridge is demolished in 2021 into a development area that has been likened to the Riverwalk in San Antonio.
Perkes is board certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Texas Board of Legal Specialization Civil Appellate Law Commission, board member of the Cameron County Bar Association, and a fellow of the College of the State Bar of Texas.
The McAllen native received a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Texas at Austin and a Juris Doctor degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law.
Perkes’ appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.
