At least 35,000 federal workers in Texas have not been getting their paychecks because of the partial government shutdown.

Unemployment benefits are just one option. The folks at Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend staff can provide information on job opportunities not only for furloughed workers, but also for those who are scrambling to making some income to help make ends meet.

Monika De La Garza with Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend says her staff ran a recent job report, finding there are more than 4,200 jobs available in the Coastal Bend.

“You know there is a demand right now for pipe fitters, welders, electricians, plumbers,” De La Garza said. “And then we have the other spectrum of this we have administrative positions.”

One important item to note: If furloughed federal employees receive unemployment aid, they will have to repay it if they get back pay when the shutdown ends.
