A 43-year-old Corpus Christi man was convicted Friday of four charges in connection with a hit-and-run accident with two teenagers as they crossed a street near King High School last year.
Elton Holmes was convicted of causing an accident involving death, causing an accident involving bodily injury and aggravated assault. Holmes was not guilty on manslaughter charges, but was found guilty on a lesser charge of criminal negligent homicide.
The charges stemmed from an incident where Holmes was convicted of hitting 15-year-old Madicyn Knott and 16-year-old Rai-Ane Garza in a crosswalk near their school. Knott survived, but Garza was killed in the March 27 accident.
The two girls were at King for a Color Guard meeting, hoping to try out for the squad.
Closing arguments ended at noon Friday in Holmes’ trial, which came before 117th District Judge Sandra Watts.
Twelve jurors and two alternates — made up of nine women and five men — deliberated for about 3½ hours before deciding Holmes’ fate.
Holmes’ sentencing phase will continue on Monday.
