Casino gaming could be coming to Nueces Canyon if state lawmakers give the O.K.
House Bill 494, filed by District 22 Rep. Joe Deshotel (D-Beaumont), would allow casino gaming in certain coastal areas of Texas.
The idea is to provide additional funding for windstorm insurance coverage and catastrophic flooding assistance.
The money would come in part from fees for licenses and operating certificates.
A casino gaming commission would also be created and would award no more than nine casino operator licenses.
And Nueces County would be one of the areas eligible for a license.
