HOUSTON – Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins says he will donate his football playoff check to the family of Jazmine Barnes.

Hopkins tweeted on Thursday that he’s pledging his check from the Texans’ game Saturday against Indianapolis to help Barnes’ family with funeral costs and to support local law enforcement in finding the suspect in the case.

Seven-year-old Jazmine Barnes was shot and killed in a  seemingly random attack while riding a vehicle with her family on Sunday in Houston.

Hopkins said in his tweet: “On Saturday, I will be playing in your honor, Jazmine.”

Houston deputies have said that a man drove up next to her family’s car and opened fire, killing Jazmine and injuring her mother and her sisters.

It’s sparked intense interest in the Houston area.

Civil Rights attorney Lee Merritt and activist Shaun King are raising a reward for information leading Harris County Sheriff deputies to the killer of the second-grader.

And it’s also spurred Hopkins to action, leading the football player to tweet when he sees a picture of the young victim, it reminds him of his own daughter.
