A portion of the I-37 was shut down this morning after a woman was hit and killed by a passing motorist.
Corpus Christi Police say the accident happened just before 5:30 a.m. at the intersection of I-37 and Lantana.
A 40-year-old woman reportedly stepped into traffic to pick up an item. She was hit by an oncoming vehicle and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Traffic had to be diverted for several hours while police responded to the accident.
Police say the driver that hit the woman is not at fault.
