The Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what it is considering a “possible homicide” that took place about three miles east of Orange Grove early Friday.

Deputies and members of the Texas Rangers found the body of a 28-year-old woman Melissa Arredondo about 8:44 a.m. along with a silver compact car. They responded after the call of a deceased female on the side of County Road 353. Police learned of the suspicious vehicle after a passing motorist reported it to the Jim Wells County dispatcher.

Arredondo was pronounced dead at the scene by the Justice of the Peace.

The deceased woman’s family has been notified and is aware of the circumstances of the investigation, Jim Wells County Sheriff Daniel J. Bueno said.

Her body has been sent to the Medical Examiner’s office for additional investigation.
